When you move to a different platform (Windows to Mac or Mac to Windows) you can not use the 'replace computer' function that appears as part of the install process, due to the file system differences between the two platforms.
To change platforms, you will need to transfer all of your files to the new computer locally, or by downloading them from Mozy. Then delete the original computer from your account and install Mozy on the new one. If you have enough free space, you can add the new computer to your account and back it up, then delete the original.
Primary Method:
- If you need to use Mozy to transfer your files to the new computer, refer to this article for complete directions.
- Once you have successfully transferred all of your files, refer to this article to delete the original computer from the account. Warning: Do not delete the original computer until you are certain that all of your files have been transferred. If you started a restore, you must wait for it to finish before deleting the computer.
- Download and install Mozy on the new computer. Your files may be in irregular locations as a result of being transferred to a different platform so make sure they are selected for backup.
Alternate Method:
- Transfer or download your files to the new computer.
- Add the computer to your account following the directions in the document, How do I add a machine to my MozyPro account?
- Select the files you want to backup, then wait for it to finish uploading them. It could take a long time depending on your upload speed and how much data there is.
- Once the backup from the new computer is finished, you can delete the original computer from your account.
